Why do Cats Scratch?

To mark their territory. A cats paws contain scent glands, so after scratching a particular item, a residual scent will warn off other cats.

Scratching also serves as a valuable exercise for your cat - the act of scratching stretches, pulls and works the muscles of a cats front quarter. This equates to a feline gym workout-cum-kitty yoga.

Scratching removes the outer, dead sheath of the cats nails.

A Cat needs a scratching post just as it does a litter box and water. If a post is not available to meet your cats needs, it will invariably find another outlet for its clawing propensities!

A Scratch Post should be:

Sturdy and Stable - Cats want to stretch and sink their paws into the post and manipulate it as much as possible. Yet if the post falls over after a little rigorious action, the cats tend to lose interest. Some owners make the mistake of buying a kitten-size scratching post for adult cats. Ideally, a post should be a little higher than your cat stretched full length in scratching bliss.

Be rugged in surface - A cat derives the greatest pleasures from scratching when the surface is rugged and resilient, therefore we use commercial grade carpet in our manufacturing process.
